In December 2022, the Town of Fuquay-Varina adopted an ordinance to restrict and prohibit smoking and vaping inside Town facilities, on Town properties, and inside Town vehicles.
Prior to the passing of this ordinance, smoking and vaping had been restricted by policy inside Town facilities for some time. The Town Board took this action to limit conditions detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare of Town citizens and employees and to promote the safe and peaceful enjoyment of public spaces in the Town.
The Smoking and Vaping Ordinance also aligns the Town of Fuquay-Varina with other municipalities in Wake County.
The Smoking and Vaping Ordinance will affect citizens primarily at Town of Fuquay-Varina parking lots, parks, playgrounds and athletic fields, greenways, trails, and open space lands owned, leased, or occupied by the Town of Fuquay-Varina. Smoking and vaping are not allowed at these locations per the ordinance.
Designated smoking areas have been identified at primary Town employee work locations.
