Year of the Trail
The North Carolina General Assembly designated 2023 as the Year of the Trail in North Carolina to promote and celebrate the state's extensive network of trails that showcase our state's beauty, vibrancy, and culture.

Trail and Greenway Information
The Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources department operates eleven trails and greenways. Learn more about each trail below or explore the interactive map.
Alston Ridge Park Walking Track
The Alston Ridge Park walking track is a .4-mile paved loop. Park facilities include a playground and picnic shelter.

Alston Ridge Park is home to a Storywalk, presented by the Fuquay-Varina Junior Women's Club in partnership with the Town of Fuquay-Varina and the Wake County Public Library. The books will be rotated every 2-3 months.
Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park
The Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park features 28 acres and 2 miles of overlooks, natural bridges, streams, and nature education.

Fleming Loop Walking Track
Fleming Loop Park includes two paved walking tracks - a .47-mile loop and a .51-mile loop. The park also features picnic shelters, playgrounds, and field space.

Fuquay Mineral Spring Park
At the time of its discovery in 1858, the mineral spring was thought to have healing powers. Visitors came from far and wide to partake of the mineral waters. Today, the mineral spring is commemorated within Fuquay Mineral Spring Park. The park offers .2 miles of walking paths, open space, a restored springhouse, picnic tables, and a footbridge.

Fuquay-Varina Museums at Ashworth Park
Ashworth Park is home to significant historical Town structures, a picnic shelter, a playground, and walking paths.

Hilltop Needmore Town Park and Preserve
The Hilltop Needmore Town Park and Preserve features 143 acres of open green space, ponds, and trails. Three trails that vary in difficulty and elevation make up 5 miles of paved walking, jogging, and biking trails.

Jeff Wells Trail
The Jeff Wells Trail is a .7-mile paved walking trail that connects South Park to the Carroll Howard Johnson Environmental Education Park.

Old Honeycutt Road Park Walking Track
Old Honeycutt Park sits on 11 acres of multi-use recreational space, including a .23-mile paved walking track, playground, picnic shelter, tennis and pickleball courts, and open field space.

Park Depot Greenway
The Park Depot Greenway starts at Old Honeycutt Park and connects to the South Lakes Greenway, spanning 2 miles total.

South Lakes Greenway
The South Lakes Greenway connects to the Park Depot Trail, Willow Spring High School, South Lakes and Meadow Brook communities, and Honeycutt Road Park, totaling 2 miles of walking and biking possibilities.

South Park Walking Track
The .36-mile walking track is one of many recreational features of South Park. Visitors can also enjoy outdoor basketball courts, baseball/softball fields, playgrounds, multipurpose fields, a picnic shelter, and the Jeff Wells trailhead.
