Dance Team

For the 2023/2024 Dance Season, the Fuquay-Varina Arts Center (FVAC) Dance Program will field a Competition Dance Team. Dancers Ages 6 - 18 are invited to tryout for this team as an opportunity to experience dance in a dedicated and positive atmosphere. This team will learn multiple group routines to be performed at 3 regional competitions during the season. 

Dance Team provides young dancers an opportunity to participate in an activity that develops sportsmanship, character, responsibility, leadership and self-discipline. 

To be a member of the Dance Team, candidates must attend tryouts on July 22, 2023 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Fuquay-Varina Arts Center.  ***Please arrive 15 min prior for check in. Acceptance into Dance Team will be determined base on candidate performance at the tryouts. The final decision with regard to qualification rests with the Dance Team Directors.

Candidates for Dance Team must meet the following prerequisites:

• Attend Tryouts
• Commit to participation throughout the Dance Season (August 2023 - May 2024)
• Previous dance experience (required only for ages 8+)
• Ability to participate in weekly practices (Practice schedule below)
• Be enrolled in one or more FVAC Ballet or Technique classes during Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 Sessions
• Commit to the Team Contract (Available for review below)

What to wear to Tryouts:

• Girls- Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, any additional dance shoes  (ex. tap, jazz, pointe), hair neatly in bun or ponytail.
• Boys- white t-shirt, black athletic shorts/pants, black dance shoes or barefoot.

Selection Criteria:

• Movement quality and musicality. 
• Professionalism and appearance.
• Ability to learn choreography and implement corrections quickly.
• Flexibility.
• Existing ballet technique (modern and classical).
• Physicality/Athleticism.
• Positive Attitude.

Practice Schedule:

• Ages 6 - 9, Mon. 4:45pm - 5:45pm
• Ages 10 - 18, Mon. 8:00pm - 9:00pm
