NC Main Street Strategic Plan

Main Street revitalization by nature is a community-driven process. Therefore, community members must take an active role in leading and implementing positive change. While the director is responsible for facilitating the work of volunteers, this staff member is not tasked with single-handedly revitalizing the commercial district. The direct involvement of an active board of directors and committees is key to success.

What is a Main Street Strategic Plan?

A comprehensive annual work plan provides a detailed blueprint for the Main Street program's activities; reinforces the program's accountability both within the organization and also in the broader community; and provides measurable objectives by which the program can track its progress.

The Town's Downtown Advisory Committee (DAC) with guidance from NC Main Street staff is working on a six-month program to develop an active annual work plan for Fuquay-Varina's downtown community and Main Street Program. This strategic plan will accomplish:

  • The work plan will contain a balance of activities in each of the four broad program areas that comprise the Main Street approach - Economic Vitality, Quality Design, Effective Promotion, and Sustainable Organization.
  • The work plan will contain measurable objectives, including timelines, budgets, desired outcomes, and specific responsibilities.
  • The work plan will be reviewed, and a new one developed annually.
  • The DAC will be involved in developing the annual work plan with input from downtown business owners, property owners, and stakeholders.

The DAC and NC Main Street staff plan to finalize their Strategic Annual Work Plan by the fall of 2017.
